Computer Games Development Holiday Boot Camp

We at British Youth International college are happy to offer a three day games development boot camp for kids over school holidays, for those who are looking to learn Introductory Computer Game Design and Development and making a 2D game. The children taking part will learn about 2D game environments, sprites, 2D movement and coordinates, character control, gameplay, game physics and more.

By the end of the three day boot camp they will have a working 2D game which they can show off to their friends and family at home. We use up to date game development tool kits including Stencyl and Processing, meaning kids, while putting coding into practice, will be able to use their imaginations and build a functional game in just three days with only beginners knowledge.

Children will also learn programming fundamentals, which will stand them in good stead in the future, learning concepts such as variables, loops, booleans, decisions and other important programming concepts which are relevant in all computer programming languages. They will be able to use these skills to create more games in the future, maybe coming up with the next big hit!

Why this holiday games development boot camp?

This course offers a fun, yet educational experience. The suggested age range is from primary school to secondary, from around 8 – 14. Classes will run from 10am – 3pm, and children will be required to bring a packed lunch. It is encouraged for kids to bring their own laptops on which we can install the required toolkits, although laptops will be available on request. If your child is bringing their own laptop they should also bring a mouse, this is required for at least the final day but ideally for all three.

If you are looking for an entertaining and educational activity for your children this summer, you are looking in the right place. Let us take some stress away and teach your children skills they can use for life. Please look here to see our recent blog post about our summer boot camps.
